Two Chinese language nationals and two others have been killed in an assault on a convoy carrying gold within the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s lawless east.
Friday’s ambush focused a four-vehicle convoy belonging to TSM Mining that was carrying gold from a website close to the Kimbi river within the Fizi area of South Kivu province.
The attackers “stole parcels of gold which they took away into the bush”, mentioned Sammy Badibanga Kalondji, an official in Fizi.
The 2 others killed have been a soldier and a driver from the DRC.
Kalondji mentioned three others have been wounded within the assault – a Chinese language mine worker and two locals, one other soldier and a mine employee.
The attackers have been from the neighbouring Maniema area, he mentioned.
